Star Trek

Star Trek is awesome!!! I mean, if you're a geek you have to watch Star Trek. I mainly watch the TV shows. Right now I'm watching Voyager. I think that if you haven't watched Star Trek you should. I started on The Next Generation, which I think is a good one to start with. The original ones are kind of cheesy. Anyway. Oh and I'll be going on vacation in Colorado starting on Thursday. Please tell me if you'd rather have a bunch of posts now to make up for it, schedule them to post everyday, or have a bunch at the end.

Guest Post by FAITH!!!

For the first guest post on this blog, Faith wrote a weird story for me. She writes a lot at her blog www.avocadopizza.blogspot.com

So, French Fries, by Faith Harvey.

If I could fly I would zoom around the world and visit all the different places that are fun and cool! Like the Eiffel Tower, and the Colosseum, and the Leaning Tower of Pizza! And if I could shrink, I would shrink a lot. Also, if I were a pen, I think I’d be a black pen. No forget that! That’s BOOOOOOOOORING!!!!! I’d be purple! Or blue or green! No purple, blue, AND green!!! Totally!!! I can’t wait!!! I also hope that we have mashed potatoes for breakfast. I mean lunch. I don’t know what I mean!!! Somebody help me!!!!!!!!!! And that, my friends, is why Purple Poopy Pancakes should be illegal.

Marshmallows!

Marshmallows are funny objects. They're squishy and sticky. They also make great projectiles. And they're just fun to say! Marshmallow marshmallow marshmallow... I don't like eating them though...Anyway.

Olympics

Last night I stayed up watching the Olympics opening ceremony (as a lot of you probably did as well.) I think it was really cool. (The giant baby head was kind of creepy though. (But at least it wasn't floating.)) The Queen jumping out of the helicopter with James Bond was also pretty awesome. And I think it was pretty cool with the 204 countries' little flames into a one huge flame. And if you didn't see it, there are probably dozens of Youtube videos of it. (Duh.)

Canoeing

Today Lydia and I went canoeing for two and a half hours at a nearby Boy Scout camp earlier today. I learned a few things.
1. I paddle best on the back.
2. Towing people is fun.
3. Paddles float.
4. You undoubtedly get wet.
5. Getting rammed is a good way to wake up passengers!

Randomish

Today's post is inspired by my cousin Faith. She writes a lot of random stuff at her blog: http://www.avocadopizza.blogspot.com/ So here goes:

If a wild turkey walks into your yard and pecks your grill, grab a pizza and put it in the sink. Then peel a banana, and run down the street yelling "Giant fish apocalypse!" Then stop at the park, dip your head in the lake, then go to the airport, hire an airplane, drop a rock out above your yard and scare away the turkey. Then go start a pest control company.

Puppy!!!

My family adopted a puppy named Sasha about a week ago. (She's sitting on my bed with me as I write this.) She's half boxer and half black lab. She's about 7 or 8 weeks old. She does this thing where she is half licking and half gnawing. She also is scared of jumping off of my bed. And when she sleeps, she's out cold. You can carry her around and she won't wake up. Here's some pics:

Banjo

(Just so you know the reason I'm writing this so late is because my dad wanted to watch a banjo documentary.) My sister and I like being annoyed by my dad's banjo, and I think the reason is that just like with being obsessed with bacon, people love having something to hate.

Pizza

I think pizza is a pretty cool food. It can include stuff from pretty much every food group. And people can customize it to what their tastes are. Sorry that today's post is short; I have to go eat some pizza.

Harvey Quotes

The Harvey's (and Thoreson's) say a lot of weird things. So we decided to make a list! Here it is, and it will increase in size as we say more funny stuff. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1i3Vg9tWlh7zZ-FZiCgKATVxrzStZsr70I8XPd9w7pc8/edit

Google is awesome!

As the title says, Google is pretty awesome. You may not like them having something for every purpose (sort of overlordish.) But like for Google Chrome, you don't realize how great it is until you switch to like Internet Explorer. It may be just for me, but it feels like everything is where it should be. You should really go to Even More on the Google homepage. They have a ton of cool stuff.

As the title says, this blog has almost 1,000 views. Thank you for reading. And please send this to your friends. I have been running out of ideas for awhile now, so it would really help if you sent in ideas. (Now that sounded too formal. Flight Simulators

Does anybody know a good flight simulator? I think I'm going to try to get my pilots license when I'm old enough and I think it would be cool to do some practicing.

Adsense

As you may have noticed, I added ads to my blog. But even though I had around 300 views of them, I only earned a penny (and that was because someone clicked.) If I had gotten 1000 views I would have only made three cents. Once on my other blog I had a day where if I had gotten 1000 views I would have gotten more than $1000. But that was probably because it was a technology blog... Oh well. If you don't like the ads please say that in the comments.

Bacon Revisited

I think that I didn't type enough about bacon the last time. So here's some more: I think part of the reason that people are obsessed with bacon is that they like being obsessed. Take www.thinkgeek.com for instance. They have a whole section devoted to bacon. (http://www.thinkgeek.com/caffeine/bacon/) I'll probably write even more when I can think of more. And just in case you don't know, BACON IS AWESOME!!!

Simon's Cat

Simon's Cat is a funny series of cartoons involving a hungry cat. Here's the first one: http://www.simonscat.com/Films/Cat-Man-Do/?sort=o (The video embedding wouldn't work.)

Here's the rest: http://www.simonscat.com/Films/?sort=o
They are really funny and remind me of my cats.

Year-round School

Some schools in my district started school last Monday, which was the 9th of July. They were in year-round school, where they had to go to school the same number of days as anybody else, but they had to go in summer. They might have longer breaks, but I still think year-round school would be horrible, for the students, the teachers, the parents, and even the district. (I had to write a convincing essay about how year-round school is better than regular school as an assignment, so I had to research it and learned even more bad things about it. I wanted to write how regular school was better, but I couldn't, but now I can!)
Why it's bad for the students: Part of the reason they do year-round school is that they think that kids will forget over summer break. But kids will forget whether it's over three months or three weeks. And studies show that kids in year-round school didn't learn anything more than kids in regular school. And they might even learn less because just as they get into a topic, there's a week long break and they have to review it all again. And most schools don't have air conditioning.
Why it's bad for the teachers: The teachers will always have to get ready for a break, and they can't teach as much because they spend more time reviewing. And they don't really get a break, because they will probably have to grade papers during the student's breaks.

Why it's bad for the parents: If the middle schools have the regular schedule but the elementary schools don't, then how would they schedule vacations or family activities? Or if the schools do "multitracking" which is where there are three groups of kids, with two in school and one on vacation at all times, then if some parents had two kids who were in different tracks it would be impossible to do stuff together.

Why it's bad for the district: It costs more to keep the school running year-round.

Now to send it to the school superintendent...

Popular Science and Popular Mechanics

I know I've been doing a lot of recommendations, but I think these are sites that you should know about. Popular Science is a magazine I get once every month, along with Popular Mechanics. Both of their websites have lots of interesting info, especially Popular Science. www.popsci.com www.popularmechanics.com

Cousins

My cousins have been in town for the past few days and it's been awesome. I've actually been pretty luckydttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttlk/kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkjkkkkkkk78. Sorry, Nate was killing me with an inflatable cactus. See, that's another reason why I like it. I mean, how many other kids like pretending an inflatable cactus is a rifle! (He just popped it.) And also they understand the stuff that I talk about (well sort of.) I think the picture above sums it up. Except I have hangouts with them about every day, which is kind of cool considering we live hundreds of miles away from each other. And they say stuff like this: Quotes from the Harvey's

Ants

Some people say that if aliens ever come to this planet that they would ask to see the ant, not the humans. I think that doesn't make sense. No species has a bigger effect on the Earth than humans. No other species has made a computer, or had such a wide variety of places that they've been to. And no other species has been to both the moon and the bottom of the ocean. I could probably list dozens of other reasons.

Roblox

Roblox is a game kind of like Minecraft, but there are lots of worlds that people make and play (literally tens of thousands.) My favorite are the tycoon games. The controls take a bit to figure out, but they are simple once you know them. www.roblox.com (Oh, and it's free!)

Multitasking

It seems like everybody is multitasking nowadays, but most people aren't good at it (cell phones and cars for example.) Well, it depends on what you do. Like earlier today I was practicing piano while listening to Phineas and Ferb through headphones (well I did watch all the episodes.) Please send me ideas too.

Minecraft is Awesome

Minecraft is a game where you walk around in a world made out of blocks. Everything is pixelated and you have to survive. www.minecraftwiki.net will help. You do have to buy it, but I think you can get a free gift code (you'll have to ask Nate how.) www.minecraft.net
